2012 02 04 — 18 Skiers at Cap St Jacques

Last Sat, we had an impromptu informal ski at Cap St Jacques.  It was initiated by a comment on the forum on Fri at 6 pm from Dalia asking about a Sat ski and I responded with a suggestion to meet at CSJ at 10 am.  I also sent a tweet, which appeared on the web site home page.  Lo and behold, the next morning there were 18 of us on the trails!
The weather was sunny and about – 9 C.  The group included the club’s youngest member, Melissa, aged 6, who was helped around the trails by her dad Glenn and a tow rope.  Also there was Roy and Angelina’s friend Hannes, who was visiting from South Africa.  Not only was he on skis for the first time in his life, it was his first time to see snow!  With some expert guidance from member and experienced instructor Julie T, he succeeded in skiing 8.5 km on his first time out.
Sadly, most of the group missed finding Dalia and Dan!  They were looking for us in the chalet, while we were looking for them in the parking lot.  We had neglected to mention that at Cap St Jacques we tend to go straight from the parking lot to the adjacent trails unless it is very cold.  It is a peculiarity of the layout at Cap St Jacques that the chalet is not located between the parking lot and the trails like most other places, but off to the side.
