Well to be fair, the weather forecast was not encouraging, rain before noon according to the pundits. Still Ile Bizard was relatively close and at a pinch we could have an early coffee, so there we stood in the parking lot , a bunch of 11 optimists, already to go. We would later find out that Al L had been stuck in traffic so arrived late and missed the main bunch, still he did a good 6 kms walk.
We are always optimistic that we will see and maybe photograph some wild birds on this walk, but our groups creates several decibels of chatter whilst walking that any self respecting wild creature would stay well hidden, and probably wearing ear defenders as we passed. So no bird photos this year.
With the ever present threat of rain , we opted to follow the Red Rabbit with a possible extension to the Secteur Les Rapides if still dry. Have you ever noticed that the Montreal Nature parks always seem to have Red Rabbit , and Blue squirrel trails, they must have bought a job lot of signs. Well it did turn out that the weather held and we completed the trail spur down to the river just near to Ile Bizard ferry, well know to cyclists heading for St Benoit or the two ferries ride. On our return to the Rabbit we became a little adventurous and took a smaller trail heading in approximately the right direction only to be abandoned in a thorn trap, still with the confidence of years of wandering into the unknown we did resurface on the Rabbit trail, and soon arrived close to the parking lot. It was here that we heard that rare these days call of a Al yodel L . At last a photo of a rare old bird.
Now at the cars, with impeccable timing it started to rain, so a few of us beat a retreat to an excellent breakfast place near the Ile Bizard Bridge whilst watching the rain pour down.
So there you have it we managed a 10 kms walk , kept dry and filled our stomachs on a large breakfast. Life is good.
