Busy Weekend Feb 25,26

With the big dump of snow we had on Friday afternoon and evening, we had one of our best weekends of skiing close to town.

Last Sat, there was an informal outing at Cap St Jacques at 9 am.  You wouldn’t know it from the photos, but we had at least 16 BTers out to ski on the sticky snow.  It was the day after all that wet snow fell and the temp was -1 C.  But the violet wax worked well enough for most of us and we had a very pleasant ski.
On Sun, we had a large turnout at Gai Luron, with about 25 BTers and friends (based on my quick scan of the photos) in attendance.  The reports I got were that the weather and the conditions were just gorgeous.  The snow that fell north of the city came down colder and dryer.  It had to be the best conditions of the winter.  Even the back-country loops off the L trail were in excellent condition.
Also on Sun, I and few other BTers took part in the annual Morin Heights viking Loppet.  The conditions could not have been more perfect, with lots of fresh snow, sun and a temp of -7 C at the 10 am start for the 20 km race.  For more details, see the previous post by Keith.
