The Beaver Tails took over the intimate confines of the Sucré Salé Crèperie last Sat evening. On an evening when the “super” full moon was on grand display in the sky, a boisterous gang of us gathered to celebrate what has been another good year of cross-country skiing. We had many great outings, including very successful weekends at Gatineau and Mont Ste Anne.
The crowd in the restaurant was already thick at the official 6:30 pm start time. For the first 45 minutes we mingled and begin imbibing the beer and wine we had brought along. Then there was an entertaining and humorous slide show review presented by Linda and Keith. (You can see that slide show by going to the web site blog.) Then we settled down to our three course meal.
Some of us wondered how they would manage to serve crepes to all 56 of us at the same time. Well the simple answer is that they did it a few at a time. So it took a little while to serve everyone, but most people were too engrossed in conversation and general merriment to notice. In between the main course and dessert, your illustrious president got up to say few words. The highlight of his rambling presentation was when he produced a Beaver Tails newsletter and membership list from 20 years ago. A remarkable number of people in the room that evening were on that list! There was also a reading of a poem from that long ago newsletter, written by former member Steve Gareau, titled “Here’s to the Beginner”. A big thank you to Al Lawson for digging into the club archives to find these gems.
It was one of those evenings when many people never thought to look at their watch and then were astonished to realize how late it was when they finally got ready to leave. The crowd began thinning out at 11:30 pm and the last group closed the place down at 1 am.
Many thanks to our party organizer, Monique Magnan, for making this event such a success!
