Well the excitement is mounting this year on who will be the last to ski, of course the only prize to be won will be the bragging rights.
Early leaders Mickey and Sharon , were over taken by Jessica, who was in turn displaced by Steve. However currently Maria and Robbie are well established as the front runners with their Orford saga. However with days of snow left there is always a chance that a dark horse may gallop through and snag the title, perhaps the Estonian stallion, who knows…
Orford March 26 Maria Petropavlovskaia and Robbie Mireault
Hi Tom and Keith,
yes, we skied at Orford on Sat – it was amazing! – like a different world 🙂 . The weather was very wintery, cold and windy, with occasional mini- blizzards . The snow was perfect and fresh, and the trails were nicely groomed, not many skiers at all, which was very nice too. We did not see anyone from the club, although we arrived later than I posted on the forum – at 11;30 or so…. we did about 18 km, which felt like a lot, after a long break from skiing.
Morin Heights March 22 and 25 Steve Ostroff
Hi Tom, Steve Ostroff here. I only skied twice last week. Sung Hee Kim skied on Tuesday the 22nd and I went solo on the 25th. Morin Heights was the place. Friday saw icy conditions with the addition of a couple centimetres of mid-winter powder to add grip to 75 % mileage on both the Basler and Aerobic corridor. The groomer made the most of what there was. I was amazed and was able to use swix purple wax. I wouldn’t recommend any fast hills. Tracks are set in ice, despite the velvety powdered surface. Smooth outs, (downhill sections without grooved tracks) can’t hold the powder and it will get dangerously fast real quick. I’d like to go again on Sunday. ideally with Sung hee. I’ll likely go during the week as well and see how the soft klistery conditions are.
March 23 Mount Royal Jessica
I skied at Mt Royal yesterday morning, but no photo evidence 🙁
